Just from the appearance, the silver mirror and aluminum mirror is similar. But the price difference for silver mirror and aluminum mirror is big, how to distinguish this two types mirror?
First, the reflection resolution is different. The silver mirror is more clear than aluminum mirror on the reflecting, the reflective geometric angle for the optical source is more standard. The reflectivity for aluminum mirror is lower, its reflection performance is just around 70%, the shape and color after reflecting by aluminium mirror is easily in deformation. And the life span for aluminum mirror is shorter, its corrosion resistance is not good. But the aluminum mirror is easily to be produced massively, and the cost is much lower than silver mirror.
Second, the back paint is different. There are at least two back paint layers for silver mirror, for aluminum mirror, there is one or two back paint layers. Under the protective paint layer, if the bottom layer shows bronze color, it is silver mirror. If the bottom layer shows silvery white color, it is aluminum mirror. The back paint for the silver mirror is dark grey color, but for aluminum mirror, it is light grey color.
Third, the colour brightness from the front is different. For the silver mirror, the colour brightness from front is darker, but for aluminum mirror, it is white. When put the silver mirror and aluminum mirror together, the mirror with bright color, it is silver mirror, the mirror with white color, it is aluminum mirror.
Forth, the active degree for the back paint is different. Silver is the inactive metallic elements, aluminum is the active metallic elements. With the time goes by, the aluminum elements will be oxidized and lose its brightness, and faded into grey color, but the silver elements won’t. You could use the diluted hydrochloric acid to test it, the aluminum mirror will be more active than the silver mirror with it. So the silver mirror is widely used in the place where is humid.
