The stress pattern is that when we observe the tempered glass in a particular angle, the toughened glass surface will show the light and shade mottle. It is mainly because of the stress structure in the tempered glass. The stress structure affect the incident light, the imbalanced stress in different parts leads to the part polarized light, then caused the optical phenomenon of mottled pattern.
Followed factors could make the stress pattern to be looked more serious.
First, multiple pieces of tempered glass or semi-tempered glass to be superimposed used. For example, the stress pattern for triple tempered insulated glass is serious than double tempered insulated glass. Because there is already polarized light when the light pass the first tempered glass, when light pass the second tempered glass, the polarized light will be superimposed, then more tempered glass pieces the light passed, the stress pattern will be more serious. The polarization angle of light is same or similar, then the superimposed areas is transparent. If the polarization angle is perpendicular or the difference is big, then the light which passed the superimposed areas is less, make this part shade and the stress pattern will be serious. When multiple tempered glass pieces in the storage racks, you could see this optical phenomenon easily.
Second, The transmittance is higher, but the reflectivity is lower. This could make the reflected light weak, couldn’t cover the stress pattern light, then it seems the stress pattern is more serious. If the reflectivity is higher, the reflected light will be brighter, and cover the stress pattern light.
Third, the outside environments also caused the stress pattern. The north orientation scattering sunlight could bring the stress pattern light, the diffuse light from surrounding buildings also have stress pattern light. This made the same tempered glass will have more serious stress pattern when they face the north.
Forth, The house is decorated or not. If the house haven’t been decorated, the indoor belongs to the dark environment, the wall, ceiling and floor is rough and grey, then absorb the light, there is nearly no diffuse light indoor, this will clearly show the stress pattern light. If the house is decorated, the indoor diffuse light will be much more, could cover the stress pattern light effectively.
The stress pattern on toughened glass is inherent, couldn’t be removed completely. But it could be weakened by adjusting the tempered glass production line or optimizing the production process of toughened glass.
